Have you ever thought of bringing some positive changes to your life? Or a few habits to increase productivity? If yes, and you aren’t sure where to start from, I have a solution.  At times, making sudden big routine changes might feel overwhelming and impossible to follow or stick to for a longer period of time. Therefore, we I am here with 7 small steps to change your life…slowly and gradually. No rush! 

Get Active 

The truth is, some of us, including me don’t wake up to hit the gym. Always lazy and inactive. Trust me, I can understand it fully, as I love to binge watch Netflix for hours without a single movement. But, one day I realized, this is not what our body is made for. I decided to change. And the changes were as small as taking stairs instead of elevators, a 15 minutes’ walk after lunch break instead of sitting and gossiping, then a Zumba class because I would rather dance to be active than exercise and get bored.   

Did you see how small these steps are. But they made me active, energetic and productive. I started feeling healthier than ever. Because being active doesn’t mean pushing yourself to the max but to keep moving your body by doing whatever you love. 

Spend More Time in Nature 

We all know how crucial it is for us to take fresh air, especially that of early morning as there is no pollution in the environment. Just for your information, I used to think fresh air means opening the window and scrolling on your phone.  

But, one day I woke up and went for a walk in a park. The feeling and experience I had was amazing. The fresh breeze, chirping of birds, first rays of sunlight…it seemed magical. And is there any free therapy to feel calm and relax than being in nature? In my opinion, I don’t think so. So, all you have to do is spend more time in nature. It not only will reduce stress and anxiety but will also boost your creativity. 

Trust me, it just takes sun and a bit of greenery to do wonders for your mental and physical health. 

Do Your Work at Your Desk 

After Covid-19 we all have idealized work from home or if I want to be brutally honest work from bed will suit more. But in reality, it is the biggest misconception. Working from bed isn’t cozy and freedom of work, it instead gave me backache, my posture ruined, and my productivity decreased.  

Even if you are working from home, start working at a desk. Make a separate space where you are supposed to work without any distractions. Trust me, it is one of the most practical small steps to change your life. 

Having a designated working area helps your brain to be focused, active, and creative. 

Clean That Up Right Away 

Piling up work be it washing dishes, setting bed or wardrobe, doing laundry, your daily errands, or office work for later. And the joke is that later never comes. After realizing it, I made a rule that if it can be done in minutes, do it now. 

And to my amazement this small habit created a big impact when it comes to how my home looks and meeting the deadlines. Moreover, a well cleaned space, and that green tick on your work task lists makes your mind feel clearer and relaxed. So, why not? 

Practice Gratitude


Being grateful may sound easy and we often believe we practice it. But, let’s be honest, in this rat race that’s going around we never take time to look at things, blessings, and achievements we already have. Rather we focus on getting more money, more success, and more of everything. This adds to our anxiety and relentlessness. 

Practicing gratitude really shifts the way you see life. And start small. Be grateful for your health, your family, having enough food, or even having that extra topping in your ice cream. You may follow what I do. At night before sleeping, write 3 things you are grateful for every day. Sometimes, it will be small, and others will be huge. It will be easy for you to realize everything that you miss while hoping for more. 

Get an Early Start 

We are pacing up now a bit. Because this one habit may be difficult for few to implement as it was for me. But it was difficult not impossible so you gotta try.  Try waking up 30 minutes early to enjoy self-time. Trust me, having coffee or just reflecting on yourself while the world is still waking up…the feeling is unimaginable. 

You can do journaling, a bit stretching or just meditating makes a huge difference. 

Be Kind 

Be kind to yourself and to others. Remember, what you give comes back to you. So, try incorporating small acts of kindness. It could be passing a smile, giving a compliment, catching up with a friend, appreciating others for whatever they do for you, or even holding the door open for someone. These may see tiny but very impactful. 

Being kind doesn’t just help others; it fills your own cup, too. The more kindness you put into the world, the more it comes back to you in unexpected ways. 

Conclusion 

Life doesn’t change overnight. But these small steps to change your life can create powerful, lasting improvements. Start with just one and see how it ripples into other areas. You don’t need a complete life makeover, just a few intentional tweaks can make a world of difference.
